One of the most spectacular Bird Watching seasons is upon us: the yearly migration of our feathered friends from their winter homes in the Southern Hemisphere to their summer homes in the North. International Migratory Bird Day on May 13 is a US educational project; Global Big Day connects a network of people across the world using eBird through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Birders across the US gather for over 600 events on May 13, and throughout this summer migratory season, at protected refuges, parks, zoos, museums or in the comfort of their bird-friendly backyards for the US migration.
Find an event near your home or participate from your own backyard!
During this season, flocks of birds feast on Gulf and Atlantic shores, at forests and wetlands across the country to the Pacific, for they must double in weight to complete the journey to their winter destinations.
